OTA Welcomes High School Scholars

By OTA Community posted 11-30-2022 17:13

The Diversity Committee, in cooperation with the Membership Committee, debuted its inaugural Orthopaedic Trauma Association High School Scholars program at the Annual Meeting in Tampa. The program is designed to introduce high school students to careers in and related to orthopaedic surgery. Nine local high school students learned about careers including orthopaedic surgeon, scrub tech, radiographic tech, and implant representative. OTA members volunteered their time to help students place hardware in sawbones, read x-rays, and apply casts to their fingers. Special thanks to DePuy-Synthes for supplying equipment, and to Zimmer-Biomet for sending a representative to participate in the panel discussion. Students received a certificate of participation, t-shirts (on the way), and sawbones. Just like at a resident course, their favorite part was getting a pelvis to take home!
