The Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, in conjunction with OTA, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, will host a one-day Disaster Response Course on Tuesday, March 22, at the upcoming 2022 AAOS Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Learn the application of orthopaedic care techniques critical to disaster-inflicted injuries and treating the wounded in austere environments from faculty who have “been there and done that.” Taught by surgeons with military and disaster-response experience, this course includes a 4-hour cadaver skills lab for techniques applied in uncertain and severe environments where resources are scarce, electricity rare, and injuries traumatic.

Go beyond surgical care for an understanding of the personal and team preparation needed to handle the required physical, emotional, and care management skills. Gain the important background and understanding you need for treating the injured and making a difference in the desperate situations created by disaster at home or abroad.

This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to:

  • Explore personal and team preparation considerations for disaster response.
  • Describe common injuries encountered in the disaster environment.
  • Identify challenges of caring for victims of disaster.
  • Discuss ethical and cultural considerations in caring for victims of disaster.
  • Review critical orthopaedic skills to use in a disaster environment.

Register for the course... (Course is available under “Specialty Day” registration.)
