Call for Young Surgeons: ACS/COT Future Trauma Leaders Program Position Sponsored by OTA

The OTA is excited to announce the sponsorship of one junior trauma surgeon (less than 5 years out of fellowship) to participate in this in-depth training and mentoring opportunity.

How will participants benefit from COT participation?

  • Participants will be assigned to a special research/quality improvement project within the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) and will present work product reports throughout the program’s two-year period.
  • Participants will also be assigned to COT committees within their area of interest and be encouraged to be actively involved in committee projects.
  • Participants will be encouraged to become engaged in their State and Regional Committees and develop an understanding of the practice and advocacy issues facing their regional trauma system.
  • Participants will be assigned a mentor within the COT to enhance their career development.

What are the participants’ responsibilities and requirements?

  • The COT will support the travel expenses for the participants to attend these meetings.
  • To be eligible for the program, participants must commit to attending all events in the two-year program period. Participants must attend the annual March and October COT meetings, the TQIP Annual Meeting and Scientific Training, and the Annual Spring Advocacy Day in Washington, DC.
  • Participants must attend at least 75 percent of committee meetings to which they have been assigned.
  • Participants must complete special project assignments.
  • Participants must maintain regular touch points with their mentors.

What are the program dates?

The next Future Trauma Leaders cycle will start their terms March 1, 2023 and end their terms October 31, 2024.
